Raw, Nasty, Rockin' Blues
The Other Mules is a Raw, Nasty, Rockin’ Blues band, fronted by Kingfish on Lead vocals and Bass, with Kevin Merrill playing Lead guitar, Grant Cihlar on Slide guitar, and Todd Szabo on Drums and vocals. The band lays down an energized, intense mix of blues traditions from uptown urban sounds to downtown delta. But, it is all with the signature gravel truck vocals from Kingfish, searing hot leads from Merrill, Grant’s swampy slide, and Szabo’s schooled lock on the groove.
The Other Mules was formed in Los Angeles in 2010, but of course the roots are deeper. Kevin and Grant met while becoming regulars under the watchful eye and approval of "Mama” at Babe’s and Ricky’s, LA’s oldest blues club. They both appear in the documentary “Babe’s and Ricky’s Inn” and had a monthly and then weekly gig there. Kingfish played internationally with Kevin years ago, and has since toured with Sly Stone, and scored a record deal with CBS records in the 80’s. Todd draws his grooves out of his Texas upbringing, and locks it down with a wide range of musical experience, from jazz and classical to operatic training.
Their unique chemistry is stamped all over everything they play.
